RE: Pre-Authorizations to University of Kentucky Medical Center

The University of Kentucky Medical Center (University Hospital) has been realizing an increase in incidences of not receiving OVR authorizations prior to the provision of services. When contacted by Kathy Sheffield, UK Medical Center Patient Accounts, some OVR counselors have been requesting that the bills with reports first be sent, indicating that OVR authorizations would then be issued. This time lag has resulted in some patients having inadvertently been made liable for their accounts.

Although it is sometimes quite difficult to secure information regarding all services to be provided through the UK Medical Center, it is nonetheless still required that OVR pre-authorizations be issued. It is recognized and acceptable that many authorizations will be amended upon receipt of bills and medical reports.

Kathy Sheffield, who now handles OVR billing for the UK Medical Center, can be reached at 606-277-3098.

Please also note that the UK Medical Center no longer charges the $6 clinic visit.
