Method Screening and Irlen Colored Lenses (January 18, 2001)
AMENDED SERVICE FEE MEMORANDUM MS-96-97-23 Date of Origination: August 26, 1997 AMENDED DATE: September 10, 1997 RE: Remediation Services for Deaf Students through DeafTRACK at Kentucky Tech-Jefferson Campus (Louisville) Deaf Technical Readiness and Career/College Knowledge (DeafTRACK) offers enhanced remediation services to students who are deaf. Additional information about the program is on Page 2. Consumers/students are to contact DeafTRACK/Kentucky Tech-Jefferson Campus to request an application and work closely with their counselors. Dual enrollment is allowed when a student who is deaf is enrolled at a higher education institution and needs remediation services offered by DeafTRACK. The dually enrolled students receiving remediation services are clasified as "not educationally classified" (NEC). Tuition, enrollment fees, and related fees may be covred. Issue authorizations to Kentucky Tech-Jefferson Campus using the following expenditure category code:
DVR-4C: The form needs to be completed by the other school where the student is pursuing his/her course of study. Example: The student is enrolled at Jefferson Community College (JCC) full time and needs remediation services at DeafTRACK. The 4C form should be prepared and completed by JCC. APPLICATION FEE: $20 (Nonrefundable) Although routinely due at the time of placement on the Pre-Admissions List, payment will be waived for identified DVR clients and will be allowed at time of entry/enrollment in a program. If an individual pays the fee and later becomes a DVR client, the fee will not be refunded to the individual and repaid by DVR. ACTIVITY FEE: WAIVED FOR DUALLY ENROLLED STUDENTS RECEIVING REMEDIATION SERVICES ONLY. TUITION: $55 (per quarter) for 6 contact hours or less per week, if additional hours are neededk, adjust fees in accordance with KY Tech fee schedule. Note: Reauthorizations for DeafTRACK need to be issued on quarterly basis. Deaf Technical Readiness and Career/College Knowledge Kentucky Tech Jefferson Campus Deaf Students Services The DeafTRACK program at KY TECH-Jefferson Campus is offered to all students who are deaf or hard of hearing that need some academic assistance to meet the required SAT/HI score for their chosen majors. The program also offers Grammar, Writing, Career Exploration, Learning Fundamentals and Consumer Economics. DeafTRACK places emphasis on improving reading and math skills and also caters to students seeking GED. Students who need individualized educational assistance may also take the IES classes that focus on tutoring specific classes. The following classes are currently offered by the DeafTRACK program:
DeafTRACK has access to staff interpreters for specific needs and testing; and assessment services are available at the same campus. Additional information about the program may be found on Page 2 of this Memorandum. Consumers/students are to contact Project Mentor to request an application. The $25 Application Fee which the student must return with the completed application may not be covered by this agency. Fees for Project Mentor services may be covered. See Page 2 for current fees. PROJECT MENTOR Project Mentor is an academic support unit of the Learning Center that offers enhanced services to students with a diagnosed learning disability, attention deficit disorder, or traumatic brain injury. This is a comprehensive program that focuses on the development of strategies and skills to build upon strengths and circumvent deficits. Students voluntarily access the services provided through Project Mentor. They receive individualized assistance with learning effective strategies for organizing and studying course-related materials and assignments. Accommodations such as taped textbooks and extended test time are also available based on each students particular needs and specific disability. The Project Mentor staff who provide direct services include a Director, an Assistant Director, and Academic Mentors (graduate students). Each student is assigned to work with one of the Academic Mentors on a regular weekly basis (usually 3 to 4 times per week). This work may involve any of the following: writing skills, reading strategies, note-taking skills, test-taking strategies, organization/time management skills, self-advocacy skills, social skills, career-related issues, and referrals to other campus resources. These services are offered in addition to the accommodations required by law. Fees for Project Mentor are based on the number of hours each week the student meets with his/her Academic Mentor. MS-95-96-11 DATE: May 7, 1996 RE: Irlen Method Screening and Colored Lenses The Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) will not provide coverage for the Irlen Method Screening and Irlen Colored Lenses for Scotopic Sensitivity/Irlen syndrome. Independent research does not consistently support he Irlen treatment method as an appropriate educational process.
