REHAB COUNSELING PROGRAM AT UNIVERSITY OF KY POTENTIAL REHABILITATION COUNSELING STUDENTS: PLEASE READ THE ATTACHMENT FROM DR. RALPH CRYSTAL REGARDING THE DISTANCE EDUCATION CLASSES THIS FALL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KY - REHABILITATION COUNSELING PROGRAM. (THIS IS ALSO BEING E-MAILED TO ALL STAFF FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES.) THANK YOU!
June 28, 2001
Dear Potential Rehabilitation Counseling Students: The Rehabilitation Counseling Program at the University of Kentucky will be starting the third cohort of distance education students this fall. We welcome you as a student and invite you to apply for admission. If you have not already done so, please submit your materials by the first part of July, 2001. A completed application consists of a program application, an application to the Graduate School, three letters of reference, submission of an official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate coursework, and results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). If you have not already taken the GRE, then we can admit you on a provisional status. Application materials to the Graduate School are available on the Web at the University of Kentucky Web Site ( www.uky.edu). Please contact the rehabilitation counseling office at 859-257-3834 for program and application materials. Also, please call if you have any questions about the admission and application process. We attempt to make the ability to obtain a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling as user friendly as possible. Courses are offered in the late afternoon or early evening. We use compressed video, video conferencing, and internet approaches to offering courses. We attempt to identify compressed video sites throughout the Commonwealth; in fact, we anticipate having a site at the Charles McDowell Center, Department for the Blind in Louisville, this fall. This will complement the existing site at the Carl D. Perkins Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Thelma. We have developed a program so that students who start in August, 2001, will graduate in the spring of 2004. You will find that obtaining a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling is not as difficult as you may think. For example, 12 credit hours are field work which can be done at your present job. The other courses are offered so that you will need about 36-39 credit hours. We can consider prior graduate work to substitute for required courses, and you can take some courses at local colleges and universities. I will be making several visits in July to meet with potential students and to answer questions. It is not necessary for you to be present at one of these meetings in order to apply for admission. However, it would be helpful if you could call me ahead of time to let me know if you plan to attend at 859-257-3834. Feel free to attend even if you have not called. On Friday, July 6, between 9:30 and 11:00 am, I will be in Elizabethtown at 409 North Miles Street, and on the same day in Louisville between 1:30 – 3:00 pm at 410 West Chestnut Street. On Monday, July 16, I will be in Thelma at the Carl Perkins Center between 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. I look forward to meeting with you next month, as well as having you join the rehabilitation counseling program. Sincerely,
Dr. Ralph M. Crystal, Director Graduate Program in Rehabilitation Counseling University of Kentucky |
