Materials Management Program Description

Carl D. Perkins Rehab Center Manual

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Materials Management Program offers seven (7) different job titles in which a student may develop skills and competencies that can be used on the job. These job titles include the following: shipping and receiving clerk; inventory clerk; material handler; order filler; invoice-control clerk; industrial truck operator; and stock clerk. When sending a referral, please specify the specific area a consumer prefers. Consumers with no specific preference will be placed in a tryout to ascertain appropriate placement.

The course outline covers safety, housekeeping, non-powered equipment, inventory control, cataloging, paper flow, receiving, shipping, power equipment, and computers. Additionally, actual practice is provided on site and an internship or PACE placement may be utilized to give the student further on-the-job experience.

The Materials Management program prepares students for employment in a variety of positions in business and industry. The program provides students with skills in receiving, storing, sorting, packing, shipping, freight handling, and controlling products and materials using computers and electronic devices. In addition, students may be introduced to a variety of industrial lift trucks and materials handling equipment.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

The student should be able to lift ten (10) to one hundred (100) pounds, (depending on the specific training area chosen), walk, stand, "be on your feet", bend, squat, and ascend and descend ladders.
