The recent Counselor Manual change related to hearing impairments indicates that speech discrimination as part of the audiological evaluation should be tested at 50dB Hearing Level with 40dB noise level as measured in the sound field.

Speech discrimination testing as described above is to be covered by the Relative Value Schedule code 92557 at the established value of 12.0 units. No additional codes or changes are to be allowed for speech discrimination testing with noise in the sound field.

RE: Stuttering Program at University of Louisville Audiology Center

The Cafet (Computer-Aided Fluency Establishment Trainer) program is a stuttering therapy program now being offered through the University of Louisville Audiology Center. A computer is utilized to provide biofeedback to the stutterer.

An intensive Cafet program involving three weeks at three hours per day, five days a week, will be offered in June. The cost of this three-week program is $1,500. If the three-week program is full or if an individual cannot attend the three-week program, the Center will also offer the therapy on an hourly basis at a minimum involvement of two sessions per week at two hours per session at a rate of $30 per hour.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation will authorize for the Cafet program at the above-stated rates. Authorizations should be issued to:
