RE: Mediation-Negotiation Skills/Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

Two half-day training programs are scheduled for staff on October 16 at the Campbell House Inn, 1375 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington.

The first session begins at 8:30 a.m. and will cover mediation and negotiation skills. The 1998 Amendments to the Rehabilitation Act mandate mediation as an element of our appeals process. This training is to assist with the implementation of the relevant sections of the Act. Attendance is required for all specialists and field administrators and optional for assistants.

The second session, beginning at 1 p.m., will address sexual harassment prevention. This training is required for all staff as mandated by the Office of the Governor.

If you have had sexual harassment training from the Governmental Services Center (GSC) since January 1, 1999, you do not need to attend. However any staff who believes they need not attend must provide a signed copy of their GSC certificate to the HRD Branch. No other sexual harassment prevention training will substitute.

The HRD Branch needs a list of who will be attending each session by October 2.

Lodging Information

Rooms have been contracted for the night of October 15. Participants will not have to pay for lodging, but any incidental fees must be paid upon checkout. Rooming lists need to be submitted to Flea Penn by October 2.

Travel Reimbursement

You will be paying for meals and mileage and be reimbursed on a travel voucher. Participants who travel less than forty miles from their residence or workstation will be commuting and are unable to charge for any meals, however, mileage may be claimed on a travel voucher. Please encourage staff to carpool and/or use state vehicles when possible. In-service training should be typed on the purpose line and CT in the lodging column of your travel voucher. The following account number should be used for this training.
